For product, data and platform teams

Licence the data behind your product

Three ways to build on the UK charity register: embed our scores in your own product, take the dataset in bulk, or verify charities through an endpoint. All three run on the same underlying data.

Three ways to licence.

Data licence

Embedding licence

Serve Dana House data and scores inside your own product, with attribution.

  • Licensed separately from your subscription and enabled on a named API key. No plan includes it.
  • Covers displaying and serving our data, including the intelligent scores, on your own surfaces.
  • Requires visible attribution to Dana House with a link back.
  • Scores served through the API are watermarked per key.
  • Rights run for the life of the licence on the key. Cached data comes down within 30 days of it ending.
Bulk

Dataset licence

The scored register delivered in bulk, for teams that would rather hold the data than call an API.

  • CSV delivery of the scored register through our existing export process.
  • Refreshed drops on a schedule agreed with you.
  • Data dictionary covering every field, its type and its source.
  • Methodology and provenance documentation, so your analysts can see how each figure was derived.
Service

Verification service

Charity verification and eligibility as an endpoint, for platforms that move money to charities.

  • Registration status across all three UK regulators in one call.
  • One deduplicated record per organisation, so the same charity is not counted twice.
  • Dead-record filtering: we hold the removed and deregistered entries as well as the live ones, so a lapsed charity does not read as active.
  • A change feed, so you learn when a charity's status changes rather than polling for it.

Built for giving platforms, payroll giving agencies and donor advised fund providers. The endpoint is in development; get in touch to shape it.

Why licence from us.

  • Three registers in one schema. The Charity Commission for England and Wales, OSCR in Scotland and CCNI in Northern Ireland, merged into a single record format. You do not have to reconcile them.
  • Deduplicated, with the dead records kept. One record per organisation, and we retain removed and deregistered entries rather than dropping them, so a lapsed charity does not silently read as active.
  • Published freshness. We show the last refresh date for each layer of the pipeline on the data status page, rather than asking you to take a cadence on trust.
  • Eight intelligent scores per charity. Trust, Independence, Underserved cause, Significance, Execution strength, Impact plausibility, Hidden Gem and Funding efficiency. Calibrated against peers in the same cause and size band.
  • Evidence, not just the register. Fields derived from annual report documents and charity websites, alongside the regulator filings. See the methodology and the metric definitions.

Intelligent scores are evidence-led proxies drawn from public filings and website signals. They are not audited measures and must not be presented to end users as such.

What each grade grants.

A licence is recorded against a named API key, not against a subscription plan. Every plan we sell, including Business, covers internal use only, so no upgrade grants any of the below. The grade decides what you may do; the subscription decides how much you may pull.

GradeWhat it grantsWhere it stopsAttribution
EmbedDisplay Dana House data and intelligent scores inside your own product or service, on surfaces your end users can see.Your users may view the data in your product. They may not extract it, and you may not offer it to them as a downloadable dataset or through an API of your own.Required. Visible "Data by Dana House" with a link, on every surface that shows the data.
DistributeSupply Dana House records onward to named third parties, in bulk or record by record, including through your own API.Recipients are bound by terms no less restrictive than yours, and you remain responsible for their compliance. The onward chain stops there - your recipients may not redistribute further.Required in the delivered data and in any interface built on it.
OEMEmbed Dana House data in a product you resell under your own brand, without surfacing Dana House to your end users.Attribution is waived at the end-user surface only. The underlying agreement, the canary provisions and the audit rights all still apply, and Dana House must be named in your own contract with the reseller's customer.Waived at the end-user surface. Required in your contractual chain.

Term, refresh cadence, service levels, warranty and data destruction are set in the Data Licence Agreement, which is a signed document rather than a checkbox. It is separate from the API terms every account accepts at signup.

Tell us what you are building.

We scope licences individually, so there is no price list. These questions are the ones that decide which grade fits and what a licence would cost; answer what you can and leave the rest.

How would the data be used?
Which registers do you need?

We use this to scope the licence and reply. Nothing is shared with anyone else.
